Teresa F. Hagan nee Carr
On March 13, 2011, of Washington Township. Formerly of Philadelphia. Age 81. Beloved wife of William C. Hagan. Devoted mother of Theresa LappeCharles, Marie McGuirl Robert and Patricia Crowley. Loving grandmother of Mary Grace, Chuck, Robert, James, Sean, Deirdre, Lauren, Brian and Liam. Proud great-grandmother of 14. Dear sister of Mary Logan, Catherine Schmidt and William Carr.
Teresa was born on February 6, 1930. She was the eighth of seventeen children born to Edward and Frances Carr. Born and raised in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, Teresa was proud of her Irish heritage and devoted to her family. When she was 14, her mother passed away, so Teresa left school to help raise her brothers and sisters. She worked hard to keep her bond strong with her siblings and help out as much as she could.
At the age of eighteen, Teresa met and married Bill Hagan. A year later she gave birth to twin daughters, Marie and Theresa. Six years later daughter Patty arrived. Teresa spent her days as a homemaker and mother. She never worked outside of the home yet she worked very hard taking care of her husband, children and extended family.
In her later years Teresa enjoyed becoming a grandmother to nine children and great grandmother to fourteen with another on the way! She loved to use her excellent cooking skills and have big family meals where everyone would converge at her house and eat heartily. It was her greatest pleasure to be surrounded by her family at any occasion.
Teresa was a deeply religious woman, very devoted to the Blessed Mother. She could always be found with her rosary beads in her hand. She loved to attend novenas and mass, especially at her beloved St. Anne’s Church in her old Philadelphia neighborhood.
Teresa also enjoyed going to the casinos, especially in Atlantic City. She enjoyed taking bus trips with the various churches in the area and driving down for the day with her husband. She was social by nature and would befriend anyone who played the machines around her! Going to the diner for breakfast was another favorite pastime. After moving to New Jersey she and Bill became regular customers at the Five Points Diner now called Seven Stars. It was not uncommon to go there with her and have several of the waitresses and even waiters abandon their tables to come give her a kiss hello.
She will be sorely missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday 8:15 – 10:15 am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Township. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, Washington Township. Internment Gloucester County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
