Salvatore Giunta
On February 18, 2021 of Woodbury. Age 83. Beloved husband of Marian (nee Cocciolone). Devoted father of Elizabeth Gallagher, Tammy Giunta, and Gina Giunta. Loving grandfather of Anthony, Jacqueline, and Michael. Dear brother of Linda Thumlert, Anthony Giunta, and the late Josephine Imbrogno, Peter Giunta, Rosemarie Giunta, and Gloria Grauman. Loved by nieces and nephews.
Salvatore attended Saint Bridget’s Catholic School and Glassboro High School. He served in the Navy reserves from 1954 through 1962. Salvatore as proprietor of Sal’s Barber Shop & Stylist in Woodbury, New Jersey for 57 years. He was married to his beloved wife for 59 years. Sal loved playing drums and played in several bands throughout the years in the Tri-State area until he was 65.
Sal loved traveling and belonged to the Leisure Club of Woodbury for 19 years. His favorite type of travel was going on cruises. He also loved fishing with his brother, Anthony, and going to the casinos. He loved spending time with his family, as family was everything to Sal. He loved to get together with his nieces and nephews. Sal was the life of the party, with his many jokes, dancing and socializing with anyone and everyone.
Sal never wanted to retire, barbering was not work for him, it was his life and he cherished his customers and built life long friendships with many of them.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday, 8:30-10:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Parish/St. Patrick’s RC Church, Woodbury. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Salvatore‘s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Sal cut my hair from age 3 to age 12. I remember him well. My dad would make a coffee run for Sal and fellow patrons. He was very nice to me. Throughout the years I would remember him. I knew his business moved to the north end . I never saw him since 1978. I am glad he had a rich life! David

I just came home this morning, Sat. 02/27 from a trip and needed a hair cut. I always looked forward to seeing my pal, Sal. I was saddened by the note on the door that he passed away. Sal had cut my hair for years. Coincidentally, he played music years ago in a band with my Dad, Joe Sr., whom was a trumpet player. We had a lot in common, music, comedy and the likes. Sal, you will be sorely missed, my pal.
My sincere condolences to his Wife and children along with his extended family and patrons.
There was and always will be one "My Pal Sal." See you someday, Sal.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband Mrs. Giunta. For Beth, Tammy, and Gina the loss of your Dad is never easy. Our Father used to always enjoy going down to see your Dad to get his hair cut. Your Dad was a nice and kind friend to our Father. Your Dad has been cutting my brother's hair for about 50 years now and he not only lost his barber but his friend. He will be dearly missed.

I'm completely speechless in hearing the news from my wife Tammy. Sal was an icon in Woodbury as a barber. My father started taking me to Sal back in mid 1960s and he was my benchmark for barbers wherever I moved to. I always always stop by to see Sal when I traveled up to Woodbury for any reason and had him cut my hair regardless if I needed one or not. I even would get him a cup of coffee and John before he passed away. A dedicated American Navy Veteran , which was another reason I loved seeing Sale. We had both served our country proudly. It wasn't about the hair cut, it was about catching up with Sal on all things Woodbury and common friends. The fact that we both lived in the same neighborhood made me proud and I would always let everyone know it. I tried to take photos of Sal each time I was there during my visits and post them on the Facebook. I remember when I told Sal that I was leaving New Jersey and moving to Georgia. He ask one favor of me and that was to get a replacement for me to cut hair. I agreed and sent a good friend of mine Greg Sleet and he started a new relationship with Sal even getting his hair cut the Monday before he passed away. I will miss him greatly, but he will never be forgotten. I would like to pass my condolences on to his family and especially his wife Marian who he loved dearly and spoke of every visit.

I can't say enough how much I will miss my Uncle Sal. All of my childhood memories at Christmas include my Uncle Sal and Aunt Marian's Christmas Eve parties with all my cousins and Aunt's and Uncles. Uncle Sal was always there for all of us kids and was always funny and kind to every one of us. This year I finally put a photo of him up in my bar tending bar Christmas Eve which I've been meaning to do for years. Will always think of you Uncle Sal when I look up at it. God Bless.

Sal always shared a kind wave, a quick hello and a "how are things going". He was the cornerstone of our neighborhood, someone everyone could depend on! A kind heart, a loving soul, he will be missed. When we look to the garden, I know we will still see him there keeping everything so beautiful.

I was at Sal and my cousin Marian's wedding and the reception in the basement of Uncle Al and Aunt Betty's home. I was much younger but I remember Uncle Al was serving hot roast beef sandwiches, Junior (Albert) was playing the Sax and Sal was on the drums. I thought it was so cool knowing someone who played the drums, I hope heaven is ready for some music.
