Russell Jaskowak
On April 20, 2018 of Washington Twp. Age 90. Beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee Crisler). Devoted father of Nancy J. Cresse (the late Wadsworth “Chip”) and Kathleen Jaskowak. Dear brother in-law of Paul and Laverne Crisler and Susan Donnelly. Also Survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Russell’s military service began with enlisting in USMarine Corps 1945, for 1 year, as WWII ended. He reinlisted 1949.
1st Regiment 2nd Battalion 1st Marine Division. Role of advance Scout. In Inchon by 9/1950 and Seoul 10/1950. Advanced 80 miles to open and hold road to HungaRuRee. The 5th and 7th Regiments used road to Chosin Reservoir. By 12/1950 built airstrip to send wounded. Division surrounded several days, held road open to let pass the 5th, then 7th Regiments, then 2nd Battalion joined the flank and returned to Hungnam. Fleet came in and moved all to Pusan. Appointed to rank of Sargeant. Decorations included Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Gloucester County Commemorative Service Medal.
After returning from Korea, he met and married his soulmate and they resided in Washington Township, Gloucester County for 59 years. Russell loved his family and was a lover of animals, especially dogs. Russell’s life will be honored and remembered by his family and friends and any wishing to pay their respects at a military rememberance on July 20, 2018 from 5pm to 9pm, at the home of Nancy Cresse, 822 Main St, Sewell, NJ 08080. Honor guard service will be at 6:30. Visitation welcome.
