Rose J. Colarulo
(nee Palumbo) On April 8, 2019, of Washington Twp. Age 91. Beloved wife of the late Anthony P. Devoted mother of Dorothy Giannotti (Robert, Sr.), Anthony J. Colarulo, and William A. Colarulo, Sr. Loving grandmother of Robert, Jr., Daria (Thomas), Roseann, Anthony (Gina), Joseph, and William, Jr. (Corinne). Proud great-grandmother of 7.
Rose, affectionately known as “Moose” to her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren, was born in 1927, and grew up during the Depression era. She worked most of her early childhood on a farm and was the youngest of 9 children.
When she was a young adult, she started working at the Whitman’s Chocolate factory in Philadelphia. She then went on to work at Horn & Hardart’s. In 1965, while raising her three children in a small row home in South Philly, she saw an ad in the local newspaper and applied at the Philadelphia Navy Yard where she was hired as a waitress at the Commissioned Officers’ Club. Her drive and commitment to detail, along with her passion for service and love of people, resulted in her becoming the most popular, requested employee at “The Club” as it became known. She eventually became the most trusted and sought after employee for her knowledge of the food business and for her skills in organizing weddings and other parties. She eventually became a banquet manager and was responsible for all of the private parties and functions at the Officers’ Club. She just had a way with people, regardless of their station in life, and people loved her for it.
She loved her family and they always were first in her life. Her three children and her husband Anthony were her heart and soul, and then as the years progressed, her heart grew to include her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and her husband Anthony loved to dance to Sinatra tunes and also enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter months. Sunday afternoon family dinners became a tradition which will continue on with her children and grandchildren. Her daily passion was cooking and baking, and although she was an excellent cook, you could always find her reading new recipes or watching cooking channels. She was always willing to give you advice or suggest that you look at something from a different point of view. Much to the chagrin of her sometimes frustrated kids, her way was almost always the right way! She was given the nickname “Moose” during the 1960’s, and it became a term of affection for her throughout the years. She was the last of the greatest generation where hard work, perseverance, and treating everyone with respect, honesty, unconditional love, and forgiveness were always the best and only attributes needed in life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation Thursday 9:30-11:00 am at the Church of the Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 am. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
