Rose Vigilante (nee Simone), of Blackwood, New Jersey passed away on May 10, 2023. She was 93 years old. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Nicholas Sr. She is survived by her three children, Roxann (Gary) Thompson, Nicholas Jr. (Lynne), and Joseph (Dorothy), her six grandchildren, Gary Jr., Nicole, Nicholas III, Lisa, Olivia and Grace, her great-grandson Bryce, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Rose was born on March 23, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Giuseppe and Anna Simone and was predeceased by her siblings Santa, Rosario, Catherine, Josephine, and Philip. She graduated South Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1948 and was employed as a bookkeeper and typist at Lanston Monotype in Philadelphia. She met the love of her life, Nicholas Sr., on a blind date in 1950, and they married in 1951. Rose was happiest when surrounded by her family, whether it was at the Sunday dinners she prepared, or the summer holiday barbecues she hosted. Her famous homemade pizzelles were the highlight of every Christmas. Rose loved telling stories of her adventures while growing up in South Philadelphia. Her infectious laugh and her trademark greeting, “Hiya honey” will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday 9:30 – 11:00 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish – St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 am. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
