Romeo J. Cepparulo, born on September 3, 1932 and passed on April 11, 2020.
Survived by his loving wife of 62 years Mary (nee Cellini) and children Michele Cepparulo and Jacqueline (Hewlett R.) Bishop and devoted Pop Pop to Gabrielle Mary Bishop. Beloved son of the late Amedeo and Concetta (Guaracino), brother of Frank Cepparulo and survived by his sister Maryann Procopio. He is Godfather to his niece Dana (Procopio) Walker and Heather Mary (McKenna) Tausz and loving Uncle to Maria Grace (Procopio) Siwik. He is survived by many great nieces and nephews.
Romeo was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He was a Korean War veteran who served his country with honor and pride. Upon returning from service he met the love of his life, Mary Cellini, at a dance in South Philadelphia. They spent a loving 62 years of marriage together coupled with raising two daughters. Romeo was a devoted and loving husband and father.
Romeo worked for 42 years as a maintenance mechanic for Whitman’s Chocolates. He was also a devout Roman Catholic and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church.
In addition to being a devoted family man and an animal lover, Romeo was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan. He worked at Veteran’s Stadium and the Spectrum for 37 years as security officer which allowed him to have the opportunity to interact with many famous athletes and celebrities. He was fond of telling stories about meeting celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra and the great Dr. J. It was a big thrill for his family and friends when we would see him on TV court-side working the ‘76ers games! Cheering on his team!
Romeo’s sweet and easy going personality was noticed by all who met him. His notoriety in the sports arenas earned him an article in the Philadelphia Daily News sports page as having “The number one sports job in Philadelphia.” A job he loved with much affection.
Romeo resided in Sewell, NJ with his family. He will be dearly missed by everyone he touched.
His life will be honored and remembered privately by his family due to the health crisis of COVID-19. Romeo’s life will be celebrated at a later date with family and friends.
