Robert (Bobby) L. Haines Jr., on March 14th, 2022, of Hurffville, NJ. Age 73. Passed in the presence of his most beloved daughters, Andi Rutledge (Jeff) and Nicki Marino (Joe) by his side. Beloved husband of 50 years to the late Regaey. Son and brother to the late Robert Sr. and Jimmy. Survived by his loving mother Mary, brother Ricky (JoAnn), sister Patty (Thom) Lafferty, sister in-law Pat (Rich) Sherry, Grandchildren Rebecca (Greg), Joey, Jules and great granddaughter Macklyn, and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby lived a most extraordinary and interesting life. Born in Camden, NJ, Bob was raised on his family dairy farm in Hurffville (always Hurffville!) along with his siblings, where he bailed hay, fed livestock and delivered dairy products, including the famous strawberry ice cream that was provided to President Lyndon B. Johnson, as requested by Soviet Premier Aleksei Kosygin at the historic 1967 Summit Meeting in Glassboro. Bobby was a graduate of the 1966 inaugural class of Washington Township High School, where he lettered in both wrestling and football.
After managing in the dairy business until 1989, Bob turned his attention to his love of politics, where he worked as an associate for the New Jersey General Assembly. Then went on to serve with the Gloucester County Board of Elections, where he’d retire after over 25 years of combined service. He loved his Gloucester County Board of Elections Family so much that Stephanie Salvatore convinced him to return to work, where Bob obliged and continued to be part of the team.
Bob enjoyed many skiing trips to Aspen, CO with his friends Tom McCann, Rick Isolda and many others over the last 40 years. One could say Aspen was his home away from Hurffville as he thoroughly enjoyed the slopes. It wasn’t until his grandson Joey started playing baseball that he found a love for the game, always in attendance rooting him on. He enjoyed wrestling with the New York Times Sunday Crossword and was a big fan of Formula One Racing. Bob absolutely worshiped the game of football, especially his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. Bob was well read and had a plethora of knowledge. He often delivered game day reports as part of the award winning football coverage on the Eagles Radio Network, 94 WYSP.
And where better to discuss that love of football than on a barstool surrounded by friends?
Bobby was often found holding court at the popular local watering hole, debating politics and telling old stories, all while enjoying the company of his myriad of friends and acquaintances. He never ran for local office, but if he did, he would have surely won in a landslide. Always offering kind words or a helping hand, Bob held close friendships with so many here at home and abroad, as his kind heart, entertaining storytelling and the comfort one felt in his presence endeared him to so many. He was a truly a treasure.
These feelings are not lost on his family, his greatest love, as they are simply overwhelmed with gratitude upon receiving the countless outpouring of support, heartfelt condolences, stories and memories of Bobby in which they happily recalled how he touched all of their lives in one special way or another.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Monday 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
