Peter Fish, age 83, of Washington Township, NJ. Beloved husband of 44 years to Angela (nee Ciciollo); devoted father to Kristopher and daughter-in-law Ashley; predeceased by father Milton, mother Geraldine, sister Mona, and brother Wesley; loving “Poppy” to Matthew, Madison, and Maci.
Peter was born in South Edmeston, NY. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and upon his return from active duty Peter held multiple jobs to support his higher education at Syracuse University. He went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a PhD, with specialties in Biology and Entomology. He spent his entire career as an Applied Biologist for the U.S. Department of the Navy and eventually as a consultant for the U.S. Defense Department, traveling the world as a wood preservation and insect specialist. Peter was awarded the prestigious U.S. Navy Civilian Meritorious award for his many important contributions during his career.
Peter met Angela on a blind date. Before long, Angela the “Staten Island city girl” was baiting a fishing hook, asking why their camp tent didn’t have a lock, and cruising down the river in Peter’s handmade duck boat. The country boy and the city girl married and established a home in Turnersville.
Peter was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and boating. He passed on his passions to his son Kris and grandson Matt and loved to watch them carry on his interests and traditions. Peter’s love for animals, and their love for him, gained him the nickname from all who knew him as “the Pied Piper”. He leaves behind his beloved and loyal dogs, Bella and Heidi, and the cat he lovingly rescued, Spookie.
Peter was very proud of his son Kris and daughter-in-law, Ashley and the strong foundation they established as a family and as business owners. Peter’s greatest joy in his life was his grandchildren, Matt, Madison, and Maci. He became the Poppy who loved to tease and joke with them. Matt is well on his way to beginning an engineering career and loves the outdoors as much as Peter did. Madison loves to cook and used to serve Peter her meal creations. Maci often gave her Poppy silly hairdos and performed acrobatics for him. He felt blessed to have them in his life. Peter will always remain close in our hearts.
Peter’s life will be honored and remembered privately by his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to The Ike Foundation (theikefoundation.org), an organization that provides underprivileged youth the opportunity to enjoy fishing and the outdoors.
