Paul Edward Dersch, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 21, 2020, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Paul was the cherished son of the late William and Harriet Dersch. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Lorraine (nee Mergenthal). He was the loving and devoted father of Jennifer Parsons (Albert), Patricia Ardito (Justin), and Paul Dersch. He was the proud and loving Grandfather of Emily, Justin, Tyler, Albert, and John. He was the dear brother of William Dersch (Joyce) and Margaret Carpenter. He was loved and cherished by his extended family and many faithful friends.
Paul was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving in Virginia Beach where he gained his knowledge of electronics while working on drone helicopters. He was a dependable, hard worker who retired after working for IBM for 25 years and Lockheed Martin for 20 years.
Paul was a kind and gentle man, a true servant of the Lord. He never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. He volunteered in both the Washington Township Community and Sts. Peter and Paul Church as a youth basketball coach, Youth Group Leader, Young Life Council Member, RCIA Sponsor, and Eucharistic Minister who faithfully delivered the Eucharist to the residents of the Kennedy Health Assisted Living. Paul was endlessly serving others by fixing computers and cars, photographing family celebrations and weddings, tirelessly setting up for church events, and painting rooms in too many houses to count. He could fix anything. Together Paul and Lorraine were a beautiful example of a Godly Marriage. They continuously opened their home to anyone who needed respite from the world. They happily provided shelter, food, clothing, transportation and care to many countless family and friends during difficult stages in their lives.
Paul will always be remembered for his love of life, for his sense of humor, and for his honor and humility. When we think of him, we will picture him gliding across a dance floor with our mom in his arms, relaxed on a chair absorbed in a good book, cheering on the Phillies and the Eagles, or swimming and body surfing with us in the ocean. We will cherish the ability he had to make us feel completely safe and protected. His respect for life and love of nature and its beauty will live on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. His joy of traveling has created a lifetime of wonderful family memories held forever in our hearts. He will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday 7:00-9:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10:00 AM at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests you make a donation to your local food bank in Paul’s memory.
