Nicholas “Nick” F. Vigilante, Sr., of Blackwood, New Jersey, passed away on September 9, 2018. He was 90 years old. Nick is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose (nee Simone), his three children, Roxann (Gary) Thompson, Nicholas Jr. (Lynne), and Joseph (Dorothy), and six grandchildren, Gary Jr., Nicole, Nicholas III, Lisa, Olivia, and Grace. Dear brother of Antonio, Jr. and Antoinette Bush. Nicholas was born on December 27, 1927 in Chester County, PA, to the late Antonio and Elizabeth Vigilante. The day after he graduated from Unionville High School in Kennett Square, PA, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II as part of the occupational forces in Japan. After he returned to the States, he met the love of his life, Rose Simone, and they married in June 1951. Nick graduated from Temple University and was employed by Sperry Univac for over 30 years as a customer service engineer.
Nick was a skilled craftsman and extremely handy; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends or family. Nick was also an accomplished athlete; he was a three-sport athlete in high school, but he was most proud of being part of the championship team in the Air Force Far East Command 1949 basketball tournament. What made Nick happiest was telling stories of his time growing up on a farm during the Depression through his time in the Air Force and his courtship of Rose, to absolutely anyone who would listen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 9:30-11:00 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish-St. Agnes RC Church, 701 Little Gloucester Rd., Blackwood. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 am. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
