Michael James McGinty
On November 16, 2018 of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Washington Twp. Age 45. Beloved husband of Coree (nee Van de Luecht). Devoted step-father of Scott, Sarah (Clay), Tyler and Xzavier. Loving son of Michael and Gail (nee Goodwin) McGinty. Loving grandfather of Kimmy. Dear brother of Patricia Tsoukalis (Costa), Margaret Butkus (Bryan), Anna Schlesier (Joseph) and Mary McGinty (Fiance Dave). Loving uncle to his ten nieces and nephews.
Michael, AKA Mike or Mikey, grew up in Washington Township New Jersey with his parents and 4 sisters. He graduated from Bishop Eustace High School in 1991 and then continued his education to obtain a degree in Air Traffic Control studies from Averett University in Danville, Virginia. He eventually relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 2001, after obtaining his certification as an Air Traffic Control Specialist. He worked in Hilliard, Florida as an Air Traffic Controller until the time of his death.
Despite his relocation, he was still a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, and continued to follow The Eagles, Phillies and Flyers down in Florida. He attended the 2005 Super Bowl XXXIX game when the Eagles unfortunately lost to the Patriots in his adopted city with his father. On top of that, his love for the Phillies had him traveling to different stadiums to see them play in many different cities throughout the country.
He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews when he came back to New Jersey or when they visited him down in Florida. In 2016, he met his wife Coree and happily became a husband and a step father to her children. One of his greatest joys was becoming a Pop-Pop to their granddaughter.
As most of us already know, Mike always found ways to make those around him laugh and have a good time. He was always coming up with clever ways of showing his sense of humor even when you were the recipient of it. His sense of humor and contagious laugh will be sadly missed by his family, friends and coworkers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday 7:00-9:00 pm at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. and Saturday 9:30-10:30 am at The Church of the Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am. Interment Private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38148.
