So very sorry to hear of Ms. Hughes' passing. She was my 3rd grade teacher and I am now 52. She was my first lay teacher and I still remember how pretty she was, how nicely she dressed and how soft spoken she was. Our class called her "Ms. Shoes" jokingly. When my little sister was born when I was in 3rd grade, I asked my mom if we could name her Maryann, because I so loved my 3rd grade teacher. My sister Maryann was born in February 1969 and is now 44 yrs old. I have never forgotten Ms. Hughes. She was one of my very favorite teachers. Rest in Peace, Ms. Hughes.

You were an inspiration to so many, teacher, friend etc..... A driving force and an incredible influence in my life, to say the least. You fought an incredible battle for 26 years, but it won in the end... Heaven certainly gained an angel, one I have been blessed to have had in my life for so long. You are now with your Dad, watching over your family. You will forever be missed. I love you my friend... Godspeed.

Maryann, aka Mimi for some of us, was an inspiration to me throughout my entire lfe. I truly believe she was a saint who lived among us and that will be proven in years to come. For the love of children, that statement sums it up for many of us. What a difference she made in the lives of our children. Let her life be an example to us to teach us how we should live, love and pray. For my family, these words are from Maryann/Mimi. To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourselves to me with tears; be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love, and you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it's time I travelled on alone. So grieve awhile for me if you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. i won't be far away, and life goes on. So if you need me, call, and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone, I will greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home."

All I can say is heaven has another angel!!! You were the kindest woman we had the priviledge of having for a neighbor for just about 20 years. You are now at peace and with your dad. Although we will miss you tremendously we know you are happy and are no longer suffering. When we think of you all we can do is smile. Mimi --- we love you and you will always be in our hearts!

Mimi, I will never forget the first time I met you on a cold fall day. The sky was gray but your smile and kind presence brought sunshine and warmth to my heart. We spoke for over an hour as we watched the soccer game. When we left the game I realized the person I just met was one of the most beautiful, gentle, loving and humble human being out there. I have only known you for a little over a year but I will never forget your smiling face and courageous heart. You have taught me there are bigger things out there worth fighting for and you need to let the small stuff go. As I live the rest of my life I will try to honor you and make you proud. May you watch over all of us as we continue to love and remember you throughout the rest of our days. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d'aghaidh Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís, Go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú. May the road rise to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. Love, Kieran Francis Higgins (Your little Irish Leprechaun)
