Mary “Betty” Vendzules was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. Born in 1925 into wealth, she lived through the Great Depression and experienced real poverty, all the while saying it was the best of times. She met her beloved husband in the Marine Corp, where they both served during World War II. Betty is survived by her caring daughter Laurie and devoted son in law Ray Owens, with whom she lived the last 4 years of her life, multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and by her twin sisters Claire (Devereaux) Durkin and Jeanne (Devereaux) Kelly. She was predeceased by her daughter Carol (Vendzules) Barger. Betty worked a series of then unconventional jobs, most recently as a work release administrator for adult male offenders. Always forgiving and nonjudgmental, she loved her “boys” in the work release program, always saying they never got a fair shot at life. Before moving to New Jersey during COVID, Betty (the “Great One” as she was nicknamed by her sweet Great Grandson Jeremy) resided in Leesburg, Florida where she had many loving and supportive friends and fabulous memories in retirement at Hawthorne with husband Pete while living on a lake amongst abundant wildlife. Her wish was to be cremated and eventually buried next to her dear husband in Bushnell military cemetery in Florida. She will be forever missed.
