Mary L. Padden (nee Hickey) On January 28, 2017 with her loving family by her side, of Franklinville. Age 81. Beloved wife of the late Harry Padden, Jr. Devoted mother of Harry, III (Arlene), William and Maria Kohler. Loving grandmother of Thomas, Kevin, Katie and Harry, IV. Proud great-grandmother of Treigh and Malcolm.
Mom valiantly persevered through all manner of plays, recitals and sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in, regardless of the importance of their part in the event. Every month she enjoyed lunch at Scotland Run with the retired secretaries from Washington Twp. High School and reminisce, tell stories and gossip. Mom and Dad enjoyed pinochle with the neighbors. Starting in the 60’s in Glenolden and continuing into the 70’s in Whitman Square, they would play into the wee hours of the morning with the neighbors. They also rented a house in North Wildwood for a week each summer when we were kids. We always went to the Little Club Restaurant and to Morey’s Pier on the Boardwalk.
One of the closest friendships mom had was with her boss Millie Ashby, assistant principal at Washington Twp. High School. Millie had a house in Stone Harbor. Mom and Dad would join Millie at the shore. Dad would do the maintenance and cook as their contribution. Mom and Millie would meet other women on the beach and went by the collective name “Sand in the Crotch Club.”
Mom was a huge fan of Jeopardy! ad was so proud when WTHS’s Becky Manganello, wife of David Lang, made it to the show. Maria and Mom liked to go to “Jake’s on the Lake” for dinner. Mom’s favorite cocktail was a Southern Comfort Manhattan. Cheers Mom! Mom got a recipe from one of her friends for Jewish Apple Cake. It became and instant family favorite. Only to be replaced by her infamous (so delicious) Jewish Peach Cake.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday 9:00-10:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo RC Church 176 Stagecoach Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:45 AM.
