Mary E. Verchio
(nee Chapman) On March 16, 2023 of Washington Twp. Age 93. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Verchio, Jr. Devoted mother of John Wayne (Hollie), Donna Brue (Tony Brida, Jr.), Toni Williamson (James Madison), and Lisa String (Furman, III). Loving grandmother of Danny (Amanda), Luke (Meagan), Erika (Ben), Ashley (Emmitt), Samantha (Kevin), Haley (John), Joe (Keri), James (Devin), and John. Proud great-grandmother of Colin, Chase, Rachel, Laura, Luke, Ava, Ella, Madison, and Kevin.
Mary and Joe were married for 38 years before his early passing in 1999. He always called her Babe and he was always ‘Verch’. This was her greatest love. They spent their time fishing, dancing, playing pinochle, vacationing and going to the beach in Cape May. Her favorite flowers were Gladiolas which Joe brought her on a regular basis. They genuinely were each others best friend. They’re lives revolved around their children and grandchildren. After his passing, Mary would look out for Blue jays and Cardinals to remind her Joe was still with her. She was very religious and believed her faith protected and guided her.
Mary was a very strong woman and she raised her children to be very strong, hard working, compassionate and kind. The perfect role model and support system. If you wanted to know the ‘truth’ you asked her (if you didn’t want the truth or wanted it sugar coated, you didn’t ask Mom). Mom always had the best advice, an ear to listen and was always there when you needed her. She always told her children to help others without asking for anything in return. ‘ God was always watching’. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren lit up her world. Each was her ‘favorite’. All knew so much love.
Mary had a long career as an overseas telephone operator starting with Bell Telephone and then finishing her career at Okidata. Mary dedicated a lot of her free time to helping those in need including the seniors at Shady Lane Nursing Home where she would bring them gifts for the holidays and spend time with the residents. The youngest of nine children, Mary stood out in a crowd. Those who knew her will never forget her, she touched so many lives.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Wednesday 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 11:00 am. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
