Marie Theresa Shannon
Marie Theresa Shannon, 88, of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Voorhees, on March 4, 2026.
Born on February 27, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marie Theresa Shannon (nee McHale) was the beloved daughter of John and Mary (Jupin). Raised in Philadelphia, she developed the strength, independence, and resilience that would define her life.
Marie devoted her professional life to serving others as a social worker for the State of Pennsylvania. Her career reflected her deep compassion and steady commitment to helping those in need. She was a faithful member of St. Edmond’s Church, where her quiet devotion was an important part of her life.
Above all, Marie was devoted to her family — especially her grandchildren. She found her greatest joy in Rebecca, Lauren, and Ryan, cherishing every milestone and moment spent together. Known for her strong and independent spirit, she was also famous for avoiding the camera, never wanting her picture taken — a small but endearing reflection of her humble and private nature.
Marie loved cooking and had an unmatched talent for bargain shopping. She especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings and took great pride in continuing family traditions. Her favorite celebrations were Christmas morning breakfast with her grandchildren and the annual New Year’s Day gathering, where family came together to share food, laughter, and time with one another while enjoying the parade.
Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome for family and friends.
Marie is survived by her children, Kevin (Deborah), Ann, and Tom; her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca, Lauren, and Ryan; her brother Bill McHale (Roberta); and her sister-in-law Mary. She was predeceased by her brothers Jack and Bob McHale (Cecelia).
Her legacy of strength, warmth, and devotion to family will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Thursday 10:00 – 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 176 Stagecoach Road, Washington Township. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice.
