Louis E. DiLalo, on September 23, 2013, of Washington Twp. Age 83. Beloved husband of Lucille D. (nee Giovannetti). Devoted father of Gregory J. (Terriann) and Diane Holtaway (Jeffrey). Loving grandfather of Gregory, Jr., Christa, Courtney, Michael and J.T.
Louis DiLalo, alias Sonny, Moose, Sasquatch, Louie, Poppi and many more, will be dearly remembered for his love of a carefree lifestyle. He loved to live life to its fullest, taking risks that he rarely regretted. And even today, we don’t think he would have done anything different if given the opportunity.
Lou grew up in the 6th ward in New Brunswick, NJ. He shared with us fun memories of delivering milk for Schmidt’s Dairy, taking a crack at flying, and cruisin’ the avenue in his leopard skin seat convertible, searching for his true love, which he did finally find, Lucille. Lou and Lou wed on February 14, 1954. This year they celebrated 59 wonderful years.
Lou made his living in sales. Early in his career he became a Real Estate Broker and operated his own business named Bell Realty in Milltown, NJ. He then moved into the appliance business and held the position of General Manager at Tops Appliances in New Brunswick and Edison, NJ. From there Lou’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in again and he owned and operated Ted’s Appliance Sales and Service and worked there until his retirement when he and Lucille headed down to North Carolina to enjoy their retirement. Although Lou truly enjoyed the Southern pace, especially hanging out on his backyard deck, he contributed to the greater New Bern community by delivering meals to the homebound via the Meals on Wheels program and served as a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Some of Lou’s favorite things: Old Fashioned Dunkin Donuts, Aunt Betty’s Six (not 7) Layer Cake, a great dish of aglio e olio, spoiling every dog he ever had as well as every pet in the family, hanging out with the family, puttering around the garden and taking care of his house plants, travelling, especially to the islands, watching aircraft and parachuters, skinless franks on a fresh roll with mustard and shredded lettuce, tea biscuits, a nice bowl of pretty much any ice cream, with soft chocolate chip cookies or a tasty piece of pudding pound cake, apple pie, and a good cup of black coffee.
Lou, Dad, Poppi, Sonny, etc. etc. you have blessed our lives in so many ways and your memory will live on forever and beyond!
