Loved, Enjoyed, and Remembered…
Les was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 22, 1950, to Harold and Frances Navan. As a child, Les loved baseball and football and all sports. His favorite teams were the Yankees and the Giants. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and received a bachelor’s degree from Temple University. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Naval aviator. During his time in the Marine Corp., he flew many aircraft and ultimately became a CH53 pilot. He served in Vietnam and other theaters of battle. He received numerous accommodations for rescuing his fellow Marines.
While Les was in college he met the love of his life Bonnie Jean Batten of Washington Township, NJ. Both Les and Bonnie met while working at the Casinos in Atlantic City, NJ where they fell in love. This love romance started by Bonnie giving Les a chocolate chip cookie. They later married on July 1st, 1972, at Bethel United Methodist Church. During this time Les was a captain in the Marine Corp. They were stationed in many places, but after Les was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corp, they settled in Washington Township, NJ. Les continued his service to his country by serving in the National Guard. During his time in the Marine Corp. Steven and Heather were both born. After settling in Washington Township, he worked as a production manager at a pharmaceutical company. During the marriage of Les and Bonnie they loved to travel abroad, and their favorite place was Cape May, NJ and they had a love for beaches and light houses. In 2001 Les retired and chose to work part-time in a cigar store to spend time with his friends where he developed his deeper love for cigars.
In 2002 Heather passed away from a genetic disorder, and Bonnie passed away in 2007 from Leukemia. Les was an avid hunter and had traveled to Africa for big game hunting on several occasions. He was an avid sportsman, and he loved spending time with his son, daughter in law and grandchildren. In his later years he loved to take walks in his retirement community and liked to socialize with the neighbors and spending time with his girlfriend Joanne.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday, October 18th 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 11:00 AM. Burial services will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church 481 Delsea Drive, Sewell, NJ 08080.
