Lee was a great friend/neighbor. We lived next to him for 25 years. Couldn't ask for a better person. Mr. Hughes was my fifth grade teacher at Evergreen Avenue School in Woodbury NJ In 1965. This was shortly after integration was accomplished in Woodbury. You can't imagine the shock of a white kid on the first day of school who had only white female teachers previously. I came to appreciate Mr. Hughes as not only a great teacher, but also as a strong father figure. I met him again at the old Wood Theatre in Woodbury when I was nineteen. We both had dates, he remembered me, and I introduced him to my date as "The best teacher I ever had!". Some men are good, others are great. What an impact on me and I'm sure many others! God bless Leon Hughes.

Sincere condolences to the Hughes family....Mr. Hughes lived down the street from a high school friend of mine...when I attended GCC from 78-80, he always had a smile and a hello....for many of us he was larger than life, and a wonderful example of how teachers and administrators should carry themselves. I have no doubt he has heard "well done thou good and faithful servant".....Matt. 25:23 Jim Connor
