Laura “Jean” Trasferini (nee Delia), 77, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on July 26, 2021.
Jean was born on August 5, 1943, to parents James and Nancy Delia. They lived on High Street in Glassboro, with an abundance of extended family nearby. Jean remained in Glassboro until she married the love of her life, Andrew Trasferini. She and Andrew ultimately built a home in Franklin Township, where they raised their two daughters. They lived there until retiring to Jensen Beach, Florida in 2013.
Jean was a proud graduate of the New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro (now Rowan University) and a dedicated mathematics and English teacher at the Glassboro Intermediate School. She was a zealous advocate of education, as was her father, who had served on the local school board. Jean’s greatest passion by far, however, was her family. She was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a doting grandmother. She was in the kitchen daily, cooking and baking with and for her loved ones. Jean treasured the traditional recipes passed down from both her mother’s and father’s families, as well as her in-laws. She taught her daughters from an early age how to make all of the family’s Italian specialties, which were enjoyed on countless holidays and Sunday afternoons.
Beyond cooking and baking, Jean greatly enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, and sewing. At a moment’s notice, she could be found tailoring clothes or making a knitted gift for a friend or family member. She also was famous for her impeccable ironing skills and ability to remove impossible stains from her husband’s shirts and her daughters’ favorite outfits.
Jean loved to shop for herself and her family. She always was intent on finding the best bargains, while having a knack for finding exactly the right item whenever something was needed.
Even if she was not feeling well, Jean always had a radiant smile to share. She will be immeasurably missed by all the lives she touched throughout her many years of teaching, and especially by her family, neighbors, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nancy Delia, and by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Carmella Trasferini.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Andrew Trasferini; daughters Andrea Slown (Adam) and Lauren Procida (Austin); grandchildren Gianna, Cayden, Averie, and Maddox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jean’s visitation on Saturday, August 7, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Turnersville. Funeral service 12:00 PM.
