Kathleen Ann Segrist
(nee Schlomer) On December 4, 2021 of Washington Twp. Age 72. Beloved wife of Joseph F., III. Devoted mother Mara Pestritto (Richard) and Joseph F. Segrist, IV. Loving grandmother Marissa and Ella. Dear sister of Daniel Schlomer, Barb Ricke and Barry Schlomer.
Kathy spent a majority of her working life passionately engaging and inspiring the next generation in the study of Gerontology. On account of her own academic interests, she received degrees from Marian University and University of Maryland, finishing with a PhD form Temple University. She was the Gerontological director at Temple University and retired as Assistant Director from Ball State University. She contributed greatly to her field by being an integral member of organizations such as the AGHE (The Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education) and Little Brothers-Friend of the Elderly, as well as actively participating in research; heading three papers, but conducive to many other studies. Despite her commitment to her educational endeavors and academic successes, Kathy remained, first and foremost a faithful and loyal person to her family. As a military wife, she was a devoted spouse and loving mother, who cared deeply about the world and everyone in it. She loved to play all type of games with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Gmom. She made the best of what a life had to offer, enjoying hobbies such as traveling, volunteering, active church member, exploring, seeking out any event with a decent firework display, avid fisherwoman, and trying not to fall off the boat while using the trolling motor. Even in her final moments, she remained an inspiration to all.
She passed comfortably in peace surrounded by family at home.
