Joseph P. Marguglio, (our Poppy), age 95, died peacefully on February 8th. He recently resided at Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center and was a life-long resident of South Jersey. Born in Philadelphia, September 3, 1926 and the son of immigrant parents from Sicily, Guiseppe and Bartola Marguglio (deceased). Also predeceased are his siblings, Paul, Anthony, Thomas, Salvatore, and Maria Marguglio.
Joseph married Dorothy M. Condo in 1953. They had 64 years of marriage, that included travel and great times with family, until Dorothy’s passing in February of 2018.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Joan Lazzaro and her husband, Ronald N. Lazzaro, 3 adoring grandchildren and their spouses, Danielle Browne (Tomás), Charles Ragonese (Celia), and Nicholas J. Lazzaro (Richalee Walker), and great granddaughter, Adalyn Rose Browne. He is also survived by many caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
As a young boy and man, Joseph worked on the farm fields of South Jersey and then later worked in the garment industry as a presser. He also ran a gas station and spent years as a laborer with the laborer’s union before retiring.
Poppy spent his days doing the things he enjoyed most…being outside, walking, beach time at the Jersey shore and Florida, time in the mountains of Vermont, playing cards, bowling, and smoking his infamous cigars for over 60 years. He had a special love for dancing, especially with his Dorothy. Swing was his thing. Years ago, while in Vermont, he heard an owl hoot and started to hoot back. That started a family greeting of hooting calls that lasted for the rest of his life. He was a child at heart and lived a simple life just the way he liked to. So, a big HooHoo to Poppy! We love you!
