Joseph Michael Esposito, Sr.

On April 22, 2023, of Washington Twp. Age 93. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Rodano). Devoted father of Lisa Rotella (Dino), Edwin Esposito (Melissa), Paul Esposito (Kimberly), and the late Joseph, Michael Esposito. Also survived by his dear daughter in-law Denise Esposito. Loving grandfather of Nicole, Maria, Dina, Brooke, Amanda, Alicia, Gianna, Joseph, Genevieve, Danielle, Matthew, Michael, and Marc. Proud great-grandfather of Gemma, Blaise, Isabella, Brielle, and Ava. Dear brother of Rita Botta.

Joseph Esposito was a name synonymous with Washington Twp. He took pride in “his” town and the infrastructure that he put in place. He was most proud of building Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. As his family grew, his children were by his side in building his legacy.

Joe was born in South Philadelphia and was determined from birth to make something of himself. From his jobs early on to his exemplary military service earning him a purple heart and silver star in the Army, to his construction company. He was known through his many accomplishments including the initiation of the Washington Twp Police Department, to building the Hospital, to donating the “Peg Heggan” Library, and building the Birches. Most of all, his greatest achievement was his family.

He was his mother and father’s “Sonny boy” and a caring and protective brother to his sisters. When it came to his own family, they were the source of his motivation. He had an undying love for his wife, Mary. He taught his boys about integrity and work ethic, and his daughter was his joy. Above all, he taught them love and generosity. He was never afraid to say, “I love you” and the sun shone from him when he was around his many grandchildren. He worked every day to provide the best life for them.

Joe’s love of life, family, and God permeated everything he did and his legacy lives on through his family and those who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 10:30 AM at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish/Our lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro. Entombment, New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

He was a kind man and very generous...he made Washington TWP what it is today. I lived in the birches for 40 years he made the houses to last. Rest in peace dear soul. You are with the Lord now.

Dear Paulie & extended Esposito Family: Your father was & always will be remembered as "The Father of Washington Township." He set an example for all of us to emulate. Besides the many, many important infrastructure projects of the community, we only just read the other day that he was an American War Hero! Mr. Esposito was quite a visionary; commanding the building of Washington Township similarly to his serving our United States of America. (Almost in every conversation, you (Paulie) relay in so many ways, a "strong" upbringing; to be so commended. Our prayers are with the extended Esposito Family. God Speed, Mr. Esposito. You & Mrs. Esposito raised quite an amazing family... quite clearly your greatest accomplishment.

My wife, Joanne, worked for Joe and his family for 40 years. He and his family treated her like another daughter. She was comptroller for his construction company and witnessed his children growing up and his sons becoming a part of his business. She later took care of Joe and his wife, part-time, shopping and keeping track of their finances. We remember all of the parties they had and the many awards that Joe recieved. We are heart broken at his poassing and will miss him deeply. Joe is with his sons, Michael and Joseph, and working with them in heaven remodeling and building beautiful edifices for Jesus!

Rest in Peace Joe……lots of memories of Washington Township in our early days there include Joe. He was a fun guy to be around. We still talk about our trips to Puerto Rico with him and Mary, they were always fun trips!! He certainly had a long full life, and yes, always conversations with him revolved around his beautiful family. Our condolences to Mary and all of his family. Frank and Jacqui Lauletta

Condolences to the family. Joe was like a father figure to our family. So many great memories with the Esposito family as young kid.I still remember the pictures he gave my dad that he loved.
