Too many wonderful memories to share! He was a kind, gentle funny man and will be missed dearly. Rest now Uncle Joe, and know your songs live on in our hearts! XO

Uncle Joe was such a humble, funny, loving guy. He showed so much love to all of us. Better than that, he also showed up for all of us. Every wedding, Baptism, First Communion, 70th Birthday, Graduation Party, etc. he and Aunt Bert were there for us. Most of all he loved Aunt Bert beyond words. The staff at the nursing home said they had never seen a more devoted husband! I know Heaven is rejoicing over the McNamara Reunion going on! We will miss him. Better yet, we should all try to live like him!! Love, Kathleen and Dave

Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful couple and their family. We love you both, Joe and Bert. God bless and I know you are reunited with your son Gary .... and Woofie and Belle :)

I loved how they loved each other. He'd be giving out a bit of the blarney and Aunt Bert would give that dismissing wave and say Oh Joe. No matter how many times you heard his jokes he made them funnier. I will miss him playing the guitar and singing in his beautiful voice. He was the first at every reunion even when his health was declining. He was loved and gave it back threefold. We will miss you Uncle Joe, give Pops, Mommom, and aunt Pat a big kiss for me and bend your elbow with your family. Love you, Patti

A truly great Uncle who was always there. Always had a joke to tell and always had love in his heart. His music will live on in all our hearts. You will be missed by all who loved you!!!! Rest in peace with your brothers and sisters in heaven.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

It has taken me quite a while to come this point where I could finally put some words down to convey my sadness upon hearing the news of Joe's passing. I have always felt as if Joe was my "other" dad, and when I received the call from Lisa, I was unprepared to react to this very sad news. We shared a unique relationship, born out of the tragic and untimely loss of their son, my friend, Gary. We grieved over his loss together, yet I found my visits to the McNamara household did not end following Gary's passing. For whatever reason, I found my visits continuing and I discovered just how special it was to get to know this wonderful man. I always was made to feel welcome, and we would sit for hours talking, joking and getting to know one another. I discovered I liked Joe's corny jokes, his gentle charm, his tremendous passion for being Irish, and over the years, enjoyed his tremendous compassion and gentle and accepting nature to allow me to continue being a part of hi, Bert's, life. Through the years, no, decades, we would visit, chat, laugh, and bond. I would bring girlfriends by to seek (their) approval, and when I finally found my special one to share my life with, I asked Joe to be part of the wedding party by being one of the drivers. No matter were we lived, we always heard from Joe & Bert, and we would always make sure to visit whenever in Jersey. I wish we had remained closer in these later years. I truly regret not being able to be there for his farewell. So I will say my goodbyes here. Joe, you will always be in my heart, and I know heaven is richer, as we are poorer, from your passing. I loved you like a dad, I respected you as a person, and I know you had a huge influence in my growth throughout these many years. Thank you for being in my life and when you see the BIG GUY, I know the first thing you should do...lead off with one of you're jokes. All my love, Dave Cheezum
