Joseph J. Matusiak, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, at the age of 91 in Washington Township. Born the son of immigrants, Joe forged a remarkable life, overcoming the challenges of the Great Depression to achieve remarkable success and leave behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and unwavering determination.
A charismatic man with a quick wit and a contagious laugh, Joe was known for his infectious personality and ability to make everyone around him feel welcome. His journey began in Camden, New Jersey, where he developed the street smarts and resilience that would serve him well throughout his life. He ultimately fulfilled a dream by becoming the owner of a motel in Wildwood Crest, a place where his guests often felt as though they were spending time with family as much as enjoying a vacation at the shore. Joe generously shared his wisdom, gleaned from a life lived with humble beginnings, encouraging others with his story of perseverance and triumph.
His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his sons, Joe and John Matusiak, his cherished grandsons, JT and Ian, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa. He is also survived by his extended family, the Johnsons. He will be deeply missed by his sons, who were his pride and joy. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peg, and is now reunited with her.
In his later years, Joe found solace and companionship in the strategic world of chess and delighted his loved ones with his irreverent and often hilarious jokes. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, embracing its challenges and celebrating its triumphs.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be announced at a later date. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
