Joseph D. Ramsey, Sr., on January 24, 2016, of Washington Twp. Age 94. Beloved husband of the late Letizia “Nellie” (nee Cesaro). Loving father of David L. (Theresa), Dr. Joseph D., Jr., (Gloria) and Sylvia “Cyndi” Waters (Mark). Devoted grandfather of Theresa Wolf (David), Gail Ann, Jessica, Sean (Carol), Alexis Henderson (Dan) and Christopher Waters. Dear great-grandfather of Austen, Jack, Alan, Sophia, Alana, Angelina, Emerson and Anthony.
In his 95 years, he lived a long, productive, and loving life. From his childhood as a North Carolina farm boy, through his life as a career Navy man, he was an amazing man who loved his family. Self-educated, he modeled for his sons and daughter everything that is important in life – love of family, a thirst for knowledge even if you have to teach yourself, a willingness to help others less fortunate, a belief that anything could be fixed one way or another, and a lust for travel and adventure.
He loved to tell stories of his life on the farm and his times in the Navy, and he would stop and tell those stories to anyone, anywhere. There was never a person that he wasn’t cordial to, and there are few people who came in contact with him that don’t remember him fondly as just a great guy.
With Mom at his side just shaking her head, we imagine that wherever Dad is now, he is sitting with a cup of coffee in his hand telling his stories, figuring out how to fix something, and dreaming of his next adventure.
A Celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday March 16th from 9:00 – 10:30 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, Washington Twp. followed by his military honors and burial of urn at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests your thoughtful offering to either the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
