John R. Hanling, on May 6, 2015 of Washington Twp. Age 74. Beloved husband of Mary Ellen ( nee Dougherty). Devoted father of J. Matthew Hanling (Mary) and Steven Hanling (Dorota). Loving grandfather of Matthew, Kathryn, Lauren, Rachel, Michael, Jennifer, Jack, Maximilian and Ryan. Dear brother of the late Marylou Elliott. Also survived by his brother-in-law Bill Elliott.
John was born in West Collingswood, NJ and graduated Collingswood High School in June 1958, where he excelled in track and cross country. He served in the US Marine Corps and was a 50 year member of Local #420 Steamfitters. He enjoyed his time spent in Portage, ME, canoeing, hunting, fishing and enjoying the company of friends and family. In retirement he became a Maine Woods Master Guide and learned to fly. Family was number one with him; it was important for him to instill traits of honor, responsibility and joy in both his sons and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday 10:30-11:30 AM at SS Peter & Paul RC Church 362 Ganttown Rd., Turnersville, NJ 08012. Mass of Christian Burial 11:45 AM. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to SS Peter & Paul RC Church at the above address.
