John F. McLaughlin, Sr.
On July 11, 2025, of Washington Twp. Age 79. Beloved husband of Sophie (nee Masse). Devoted father of Vincent McLaughlin, Liz McLaughlin (Iris), Mary Bennett (Frank) and the late John F. McLaughlin, Jr.
Loving grandfather of Carley, Vincent, Dominique, Sophia, Johnny, Mary and Frankie. Dear brother of Eugene McLaughlin and the late Jeannie Brown, Charles and Howard McLaughlin.
John grew up in West Philadelphia, a place that helped shape the steady strength and unwavering loyalty he carried throughout his life. From a young age, he earned the respect of all who knew him—not through grand gestures, but through quiet dependability, a protective presence, and a heart that made others feel safe and cherished.
When John moved to New Jersey, his life blossomed into something beautifully rooted in family. He spent countless sunlit hours poolside, cheering on his children and later his grandchildren, stopwatch in hand as the head timer—always there, always proud. His support didn’t stop at the pool deck. Whether on the field, the court, or in the stands, John was his grandkids’ #1 fan, offering encouragement with the same fierce devotion he had given all his life.
In his heyday, John’s love of life took center stage—literally. He was found with his smooth moves on the dance floor and could often be found twirling alongside his beloved wife Sophie at the Diamond Club at Showboat, a pair whose joy left a lasting impression. His dry wit was legendary—sharp, unfiltered, and unforgettable. It was the kind of humor that made people laugh deep from the belly… and yes, occasionally until they cried.
He lived with dignity and carried himself with quiet class, right up to his final days. John was a true family man—steadfast, gracious, and deeply loved. His life was a masterclass in showing up, loving well, and leaving a legacy that echoes in the laughter, stories, and spirit of those who were lucky enough to call him theirs.
