John Anthony Roccato (1941 – 2025)
We sadly announce the passing of John A. Roccato, known to both family and friends as Jack, who died suddenly surrounded by loving family on May 19, 2025. Born on May 4, 1941, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose notable wisdom and wit touched all who knew him.
Jack dedicated his career to public service, working as a Civil Engineer at the Naval Air Engineering Center in Lakehurst, NJ. Over the years, he earned numerous accolades for his expertise and commitment before retiring in 1995.
In retirement, Jack enjoyed tracking the stock market. He opened accounts for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, seeking stocks that he felt matched their various personalities.
With a sense for adventure, he would often take drives to explore local towns or meander on scenic backroads. He could always be counted on for a ride to or from the airport for anyone in need. His recent move to Texas provided many new areas for him to discover.
His love for knowledge, specifically obscure words and vocabulary kept all of his family and friends on their toes. He was especially notorious for his spoonerisms.
Jack also enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with fellow veterans within each of the communities he resided in, whether it was with a stranger he met while shopping or a close friend.
Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, drawing strength and happiness from their love. His eccentric personality was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all!
He is survived by his loving daughters, Valerie Cline (Christer) and Daria Roccato (Joel Bohanon); his grandchildren, Douglas Roccato (Lindsey), Brian Wert, Craig Wert (Irena), Gabriella Bohanon, and Austin Bohanon; and his great-grandchildren, Harper, Duncan, and Emaline. He is also survived by his siblings, Joanne Zell (Christopher), Daniel Roccato (Carol), and Richard Roccato (Gregory Schwab), as well as many extended family members and close friends.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene Roccato (née Terpack), and his parents, John and Anna Roccato (née Oko).
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Egizi Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with a service to follow at 10:00 AM. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s memory to the Gary Sinise Foundation, www.garysinisefoundation.org or a veterans’ organization of your choice.
