KAY
Jeanne L.
nee Kramer On August 27, 2012 of Washington Twp. Age 85. Beloved wife of the late John R. Devoted mother of Jeanne Mole Ray, and Debra Shipley Richard. Loving grandmother of Kayte.
Jeanne was born in Shamokin, PA on July 15th, 1927. She lived there until she graduated from Shamokin High School in 1946. After graduation, she came down to Philadelphia to pursue a nursing career but found a job in the credit department of Sears in Upper Darby. Her new boss became her future father-in-law and the nursing career was forgotten. Jeanne and Jack were married on January 1st, 1949. Daughter Jeanne came along in 1953. They moved to Somerdale, NJ in 1955. Daughter Debbie arrived in 1959.
Jeanne was a devoted mother and wife, her family always came first. One of her biggest enjoyments was traveling, as long as it didn’t require getting on an airplane. Both her and Jack felt the kids should see and learn about America through travel. Each August we would pack up the station wagon and depending on where we were heading that year we would be gone from 1 – 4 weeks. Through those trips we saw every state except Alaska and Hawaii.
Jeanne was a collector; she has a large collection of elephants republican in her and angels. Also she enjoyed collecting spoons and plates from her various travel destinations.
Jeanne resided in Washington Township since September of 1965. She served as a member of the Birches Elementary School PTA and worked as an aide in the Birches cafeteria. She served many years as the treasurer and president of the Birches Swim Club.
Jeanne was a lifelong republican. She served in many capacities from the late 60’s to early 80’s in the local Republican Party. For many years she was the old district 8 committeewoman and spent many an election stumping the district with candidates and working the polls on Election Day. She shocked us all as we drove home from the polls in 2008 when she announced to us she voted for Obama.
She served the Township for 9 years on the Board of Health.
When Washington Memorial Hospital now Kennedy was being built she was the first person hired and served as administrative assistant to the various administrators. She left there in the early eighties but remained involved until this day with the hospital auxiliary, serving as its president for many years. When she finally retired from working she went back to Kennedy as a volunteer serving in many areas such as the Admissions Office.
Jeanne was a diehard Flyers fan. When she was younger she would go to games with her daughter Jeanne. Later years she never missed a game on TV. She loved to watch and her favorite was Simon Gagne, even though she always called him “Gage”.
Jeanne also loved all her “gran” doggies; MacKenzie, Boomer and Shadow. She was always good at giving extra goodies on the side.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday 9:00-10:30 am at the Egizi Funeral Home 119 Ganttown Rd. Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at SS Peter & Paul RC Church Washington Twp. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
