James Thomas Connors
March 4, 1946 – January 28, 2025
James Thomas Connors, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 4, 1946, to Harold and Bertha (Timmons) Connors, Jim’s journey through life was marked by love, hard work, and a deep commitment to his family.
At the age of 16, Jim moved with his family to Port Jeff Station on Long Island, where he attended Earl L. Vandermeulen High School. An avid lover of basketball from a young age, Jim spent many hours playing the sport on the streets of Brooklyn. When he arrived at high school, his skills quickly caught the attention of coaches, and he earned a spot on the varsity basketball team.
It was during this time that Jim met the love of his life, Donna (McElroy). They were separated for 18 months when Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On leave in 1967, Jim and Donna were married on January 7, 1967, beginning a marriage that would span 58 wonderful years.
After his service, Jim attended trade school and became a proud member of the Ironworkers Local 361, where he worked as an ironworker for 38 years. He played an integral role in the construction of many iconic buildings throughout New York City, contributing to the city’s skyline for decades.
Jim’s passions extended beyond his work. He loved the outdoors—boating, fishing, skiing and hunting—and was a dedicated fan of New York sports teams, especially the NY Giants, Mets, and Rangers. His enthusiasm for sports was something he shared with his family and friends, often seen refereeing his daughter Jennifer’s basketball games and cheering her on at swim meets.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. To him, family was everything. His love and support for his wife, children, and grandchildren were unwavering. Jim’s devotion to his loved ones was evident in his daily actions, always showing up for them with a kind heart, a sense of humor, and a fierce loyalty.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Donna, his daughter Jennifer and her husband Billy, grandchildren Caitlin and Liam, sister Arlene, brother Harry, cousin Maureen and many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived.
Family and friends are welcome to attend his viewing Sunday, February 2nd 12:00 – 1:30 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’s memory may be made to No Child Goes Hungry.
