Irene M. Detweiler
(nee Rachwal) On November 24, 2025, of Washington Twp. Age 78. Beloved wife of David C. Detweiler. Devoted mother of David Detweiler (Yanira) and Kim Stollar (Gary). Loving grandmother of D.J. and Michael. Dear sister of Diane Falchetta and the late Joseph Rachwal.
Irene “Renie” Detweiler was born in a Polish neighborhood in north Philadelphia, PA. Growing up, Renie enjoyed going to the theatre and family celebrations centered around her Polish heritage, alongside her sister, Diane, and her brother, Joseph (Rocky). The oldest of the three, she endured the tragic loss of her father, Joseph, when she was just 12 years old, raised singly afterward by her mother, Clara.
During her working life, she was involved in data entry for banking, worked as a teacher’s aid for troubled youth, and was the “go to” person to solve health insurance issues for customers for several companies. In her free time, she made many contributions to her community, always looking for new ways to get involved. She started and managed a swim team to give her children a healthy pastime. She trained her dog to become a therapy dog and would visit nursing homes to brighten the residents’ day. More recently, Renie served our Parke Place community as a Trustee, working as a team member on the entertainment committee. She even spearheaded a Christmas singing group for shut ins.
Renie had an absolute love of animals, and would often spend time with her husband, Dave, watching birds and other wildlife out of their back window. She loved spending time with her children and grandkids on holidays and numerous trips. These were always glorious experiences. Her favorite pastime was going to the shore, especially Cape May, where she would walk the boardwalk and surf fish with Dave.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Saturday 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road., Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:00 AM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.
