Herman S. Rubright, Jr., on August 28, 2018, of Washington Twp. Age 86. Beloved husband of Dianne (nee Dunn). Loving father of Karen Kelly (Kevin). Devoted grandfather of Nathan Kelly. Dear brother of the late Katharine Staples and Marguerite MacGuigan. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Adair and Donna Blomquist (James) and many loving nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Drexel University, Herman served with the Seabees in the US Navy where he was stationed in Naples, Italy. He worked for both the Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service. His job there as a design engineer led to many family vacations at national parks to see the results of his work. Shenandoah National Park held a special place in his heart.
Herman had a wide variety of interests and hobbies including a lifelong love of learning, which he passed down to his daughter and grandson. One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying watching the wildlife on the lake near his house. He always put his family first and enjoyed time spent with them. One of the joys of his later life was the special relationship he had with his grandson, Nathan.
In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with his usual foursome at the local golf course. He took great pleasure in his golf trips with his family and the high school couples group. A highlight was his hole in one! Last year, he celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife, Dianne, in one of his favorite places to visit, Ocean City, NJ. Herman had a kind and gentle heart with a ready smile. He will be greatly missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral Service 12:30 pm. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.
In lieu of flowers, donation in Herman’s memory may be made to United Methodist Communities of Pitman Associates Holiday Fund, 535 N Oak Ave, Pitman, NJ 08071 or Shenandoah National Park Trust, 404 8th St NE D, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
