Please accept my sincere condolences. I rode the Penn bus from the age of 5 through grad school Mr. Melvin encouraged me everyday, kept me safe, and was almost as proud as my parents when I graduated from high-school and college. May be rest in peace.
Doris and Denis Cochran-Fikes left a message on January 2, 2026:
Dear Family, We are very sorry that all of you and the Penn community have lost Jerry. For years, Jerry drove the Penn Bus, watched over us and kept us safe, counseled us and shared the highs and lows of our lives, decorated his bus to help us celebrate major holidays, and entertained us with jokes to lift our spirits on the commute home. We are personally forever grateful for the Joy Jerry brought to our lives, to crew team members, and to so many Penn bus riders. Thank you for the sacrifices your family made so Jerry could drive the bus and tend to his Penn family. The last time we saw Jerry was at a festive Penn Bus driver's celebration in his honor held at the Adelphia in Deptford and we have fond memories of meeting your lovely Mom on several occasions. Although it was difficult to lose both of them within months of each other, we hope it brings some comfort to know they are now together forever. May God bless all of you.
