George J. Schaefer, Jr., on September 17, 2019, of Washington Twp. Age 90. Beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (nee Kopp). Devoted father of Jim Schaefer (Sue) and Judy Horvath (Bob). Cherished Pop Pop of Becky and Jenn. Beloved son of the late George, Sr. and Helen (nee Spangenberg). Dear brother of the late Charles and Helen Brunken. Loved by his nieces and nephews. George will also be missed by his Plymouth Manor and Pitman Manor families.
George was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He briefly attended Penn State University for animal husbandry, before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in the Korean War. He later completed his studies at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. While raising a family with his beloved wife Peggy, George served as the Director of Accounting and VP at Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company. After retiring, he was a Loaned Executive for United Way and enjoyed volunteering at Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township. He also served as treasurer of the board at Plymouth Manor Condominiums in Ocean City. George was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and served on many committees throughout his life. Most recently, he loved to sing with the residential choir at Pitman Manor, where they referred to him as “Dapper George” as he was regularly sporting his newsboy cap. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 9:00 – 10:30 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral Service 10:30 am. Interment Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
