George Botto on February 19, 2013, of Washington Twp. Age 67. Beloved husband of Ruth Faye (nee Hadfield). Devoted father Christina Morrison (Ross), Steven A. (Erica) and Anthony M. (Jessica). Loving grandfather of Ethan, Owen, Dominick, Luca, Zachary and Adrianna. Dear brother of Donna Russello (Frank). Dear brother-in-law of Bill Hadfield (Kate).
After working for the Department of the Navy for over 40 years, you would often find George in his new office, at his dining room table watching his birds, looking at pictures of his family and enjoying his day. He loved to spend time on down the shore, fishing, visiting lighthouses, and taking his grandkids on vacation. He was not a fan of winter and the cold weather, and enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with Faye. Dinners in the Dining Room were very important to him, and you needed to bring something to the table and have those candles lit. Nothing was better to him then a glass of red wine, a dish of macaroni with fresh basil picked from his yard and a cannoli. He taught us that there is nothing more important than family.
He traveled often when his kids were young, but he made time every Saturday to take them out 1-1 for breakfast. He taught his kids and grandkids to do roundball & see-saw, make birdhouses, make wine, ride bikes, and drive a stick shift Honda.
He was often afraid that Probation was going to make a comeback, and began making his own wine in his basement. The Botto house blend became very popular with all of his family and friends. He was not a man of many words, but he was often known for his one-liners and jokes. He often made quotes from his favorite movies, The Godfather, and a Bronx Tale.
To quote the Bronx Tale “Is it better to be Loved or Feared?” He taught us, it’s better to be loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 7:00 – 9:00 pm and Saturday 8:15 – 9:15 am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Glassboro. Interment Gloucester County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
