Everett (Obe or Ev) C. Obenhein, Jr. Ev was a special person who loved to talk to anyone about anything and was a wonderful storyteller. If you had the time, he had the stories. One of his favorite expressions was “to make a long story short” but then he’d proceed to tell a long story.Continue Reading

Ev will always have a special place in my heart. I will think of him every September 4th since my oldest was born the day after his birthday. I am so glad Trish had such a special man in her life. I saw loyalty, friendship, love, and respect. Ev is resting now and out of pain. Trish you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Celebrate the great life he had and cherish those memories forever! Love, Dawn, Jake, Jeremy, and Jordan

Ev's was a life of service well lead. He loved his wife dearly and cared deeply about his children. He leaves a legacy of honest dealings with everyone. An unquenched thirst for knowledge was one of his driving forces. He had a willingness to share that was unmatched. Many have benefited from his counsel as we have routinely witnessed the last five years as co-members of his support group. He has made an extremely positive difference in the lives he touched and the people he has counseled. Ev was a man of grace, integrity, humility and we can only hope to have his courage and empathy for others. We are grateful to have had him as a friend. So we say cheers to Ev. He will be missed greatly. May he rest in peace. Bart and Carolyn G.

Although I wasn’t shocked to hear this inevitable sad news, I was still very saddened to know I wouldn’t be hearing any more stories or getting Ev's stellar advice. I always appreciated getting his two-cents and already miss exchanging e-mails. Sorry I never got to have that one-on-one beer we always talked about! Rest in peace my friend. Deepest condolences to Trish and his family. ~ Glen

I was so hoping there would have been time for me to meet Ev and Trish in person. As a member of bcan, it was an honor and privilege to "talk" with them both. I hate to hear that Ev lost his battle with bc, but I imagine he and Tony are both up in heaven swapping "fish stories". Ev will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Trish and the family. Gayle
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Sometimes there are no words for the feelings in the heart. Everett's love will always be with his family. His wisdom, his advice and thoughtfulness and especially his courage are gifts of love that are yours to keep. I have a feeling there's one more star up in the sky tonight. And even though it's far away, its brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark. May you find comfort in knowing that many people share your sadness. I will always remember the wonderful afternoon in February we spent in FL on your porch reminiscing. Reaching out to you with deepest heartfelt sympathy. Love, Barbara

Gene and I met Ev and Trish as our husbands began there journey with Bladder Cancer...our memories include dinner together after consultations with Dr.Campbell at the Cleveland Clinic. We enjoyed our meetings at Champs listening to many stories Ev would share with us. As our husbands went there way to become cancer free we have kept in touch sharing there journeys. We are saddened Ev has lost his fight but we know he was a warrior! Our love and prayers to all in Ev's life.. He will be missed.

Being on this Bladder Cancer Journey did in fact bring Ev (Obe as I knew him), Trish and myself together. Obe and I had the opportunity to share on line our experiences with this disease. As luck would have it, we were able to connect one on one a few years later. I had the opportunity to share my "short stories" with him and it was indeed a treasured time. I was grateful to have had Obe in my life to spend time with him and Trish and my husband Michael in NJ. Those that knew Ev/Obe, know he had his own special powers to get through the difficult journey with Bladder Cancer. I so respect that he chose to do it "his way". The journey here has ended but he has rubbed his hands together anxiously ready to meet head on what is to come above. God Bless Ev, he will never be forgotten and Trish, we are here for him to keep you safe. all our love, B J and Michael, Chicago IL

Caren Easterday left a message on May 9, 2014:
My mom (one of Ev's maternal aunts) always called Ev "Little Ev" instead of junior when telling my brother and I family stories. My mom was a great story teller but you better listen good and get the details as she only told the story just one time. I think this trait ran in the family of being good story tellers so maybe that is why I noticed in some of Ev's friends comments about Ev telling stories. Ev really seemed to me to enjoy people and visiting with you through emails, phoning, or sending family information and history. I never met Trish but feel like I know her because of Ev. Trish, if you ever need anything don't hesitate to call on us. Bless you and our prayers and hugs go out to you. Love, Caren, Dart and Ivan Easterday

Obe and Trish: Every time I talked about my bladder background I always mentioned a man that fought this battle for over a decade. I talked about his eagerness to learn and what the limits were to fight this fight. How he and his wife went to Arizona, lived there to be able to fight this thing with a famous doctor out there. I was so proud and honored to have known Obe. He is my hero and he fought that fight for us all. We have learned so much because of Obe in our bladder support group in Bethesda. I will miss you my buddy. God speed. Sam and Charlotte Roberts, a thriver like you...my inspiration!
