Elizabeth Elaine Leahan (Betty) of Washington Township, New Jersey, passed away on March 16th at the age of 87.

Born on St. Patricks day, March 17th, 1934, Betty was proud of her Irish heritage. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. where she attended St. Bridgets school and church. She later met and married her husband of 50 years, Joseph John Leahan on November 26th 1955.

Together, Joe and Betty made a home in Collings Lake before moving to Washington Township in the mid 1960’s. There they raised their family of 5 children; Joe, Betty, Rose, Michael and John. Betty later went to work at Bells Elementary school in Washington Township school system where she made many life long friends. Strong in faith, Betty was a proud member of Mary, Mother of Mercy Church. (Formerly Our Lady of Lourdes) for over 50 years where she proudly volunteered and served.

Betty will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, her laughter, and her Irish spirit.

Betty is predeceased by her husband Joseph, her daughter Elizabeth, sisters Doris and Isabelle, and brother Jackie. She is survived by her brother Joseph (Mary), Children Joseph, Rose, Michael (Chris), and John (Sharon) along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of Mercy, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro on March 22, 2022 at 10.00 o’clock. The Rite of Committal and burial will be held immediately following the service at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chews Landing Blackwood, NJ.

The family asks that along with any flowers, any donations please be made to Mary, Mother of Mercy Church, 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro, NJ or Samaritan Center 265 NJ-73 Voorhees, NJ 08043.

There are not enough words to express Aunt Betty's being. I met her and the Leahan Family when I was about 8 years old. Her daughter (Little Betty) and I immediately became best friends for life. Aunt Betty and Uncle Joe would take me under their wings several times a year including my summer weeks at their home. Not my real Aunt... however, I was truly blessed to have her as a mother to me. She lit up the room with her laughter and the whole Leahan Family will be forever in my heart. I was very fortunate to have her in my life. I love you Aunt Betty.

Rose First I want to say I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Betty from coming in our store in glassboro. She and my late wife would always have a good laugh usually with me at the brunt of the joke. I will miss her smiling face.

Rose, so sorry for the loss of your mom…I remember going to your house as a kid and your mom was a sweet person.

So sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was such a wonderful, spirit filled woman. A true servant of God. She will be missed but never forgotten.

So saddened to hear of Betty’s passing! We are away in Florida and were informed of her death. I will miss her upbeat personality and certainly her laugh! We were friends and neighbors for a lot of years. Betty was always willing to help. We had many Bingo evenings together. Our thoughts are with all of you at this sad time.

Dear Betty, Please know you are loved by so many people. We will be at your Mass on Tuesday to say a proper good-bye to a wonderful woman and friend. Your dedication to our church was outstanding. You were an usher, worked with the Woman of Lourdes, cleaning the church. Setting up for many occasions. Decorating the Church for different Holydays and our Grandmom's Attic . Selling 50-50 tickets to so many events through the years. Carnivals, Breakfast with Santa and Easter Bunny Luncheon. You will not be forgotten my special crazy, nutty FRIEND. I LOVE YOU
