Edward Manzo, Jr., on September 1, 2014, of Washington Twp. Age 77. Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee Masterson), and the late Patricia Ann (nee Bell). Devoted father of Barbara Gilbert (Tim), Edward “Edgie” Manzo III (Donna), Patsy Connors (Tom), Gennie Turner (Mark), Susie Bornhardt (Fred), Melanie Schneider (Gary) and Annie Shultz (Chris). Brother of Patricia Ambrose and the late Barbara Brill, Ronald and Joseph. Dear stepfather of Colleen Howard (Mike), Kathy Mace (Jim) and Walt Huder (Noreen). Loving grandfather of 27. Proud great-grandfather of three.
Edward Manzo Jr., Ed, Edgie, friend, brother, Daddy, Pop-Pop, a man of many names and hats. Our Dad was a true believer in the motto “work hard, party hard”. He worked seven days a week to provide for his wife and seven children. Trained in the Navy as an instrumentation technician, he found a home at Boeing for over 40 years and traveled to many places, accomplishing many things, but his greatest feat was the family he raised.
Those seven kids proudly made him a grandfather of twenty-one grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Pop-Pop was a man that was always on the go. He always had a project on the to-do-list, such as, painting the garage, mulching the yard, or fixing a doorknob. He made use of his army of grandchildren by inviting them over to help him out. Pop-Pop would reward them with a $5 bill and an open fridge full of soda. Pop-Pop would enjoy his weekends watching his grandchildren’s countless sporting events, lunch outings at Skeeters, finding the best deals at the locals stores, and attending church services.
After losing his first love and wife of forty-two years, Patsy to cancer, love found him again and he married Kathy Huder, extending his already large family. Joining his family was a son, two daughters, six grandchildren, and a best friend. Edge and Kathy always kept an open door to all their family and friends, enjoyed vacationing in Florida, trips to the casino, and random bus trips to exciting places. Kathy and Edge were approaching their tenth anniversary this November.
By his family and friends he always had a smile on his face despite his many battles with illnesses. As his body grew weaker, the hope never once left his face. Although his struggles grew more intense over the past few months, his body rapidly lost the strength to beat the diseases that consumed him. On September 1, 2014, with his loved ones surrounding him at his home, he passed on to be reunited with his first love Patsy in heaven.
We are all extremely saddened by his loss, but take comfort knowing that he will forever live in our hearts as we celebrate his life with the memories and smiles that we will never forget.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday 6:00 – 9:00 pm and Friday 8:15 – 9:15 am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am at the Church of the Holy Family, Washington Twp. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.
