Doris Mae Goffredo
Born on January 1, 1928, peacefully passed away on December 24, 2022 just 1 week before her 95th birthday.
She was born and raised in South Philadelphia. Doris met the love of her life at age 14, the late John Goffredo, Jr. and together they raised 4 beautiful daughters the late Janet Meloni (the late Robert), Karen Ioven (Larry Szymaowiak), Cindy Vetrulli (the late Jerome), and Dawn Mandybur (Yuri).
Doris leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Tara, Bobby (Erin), Michael (Chelly), Nina (Mike), John , Nicholas, and Zachary. The apple of her eye and pride and joy , her 6 great grandchildren – Saylor Mae, Mileena, Gio, RJ, Avianna, soon to arrive, Sylvie and her great-grand dog, Phife . Loved by nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Doris was an amazing and talented cook/baker. She was known and loved for telling jokes and making people laugh. Doris kept a meticulous home and took pride in decorating for every holiday. Doris hosted years of family gatherings with a house full of love, food and laughter. Doris loved playing Pokeno, bingo, poker, and Texas hold ‘em. She loved going to the casino, seeing Broadway shows and many concerts. Philadelphia sports teams were her passion. She never missed a game of the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers or Eagles. She loved college football and avidly rooted for Penn State and Notre Dame. She would talk about sports with you for hours. In earlier years, Doris and her family enjoyed weekly picnics after church at Pine Lake packing up coffee pots, pots and pans to make sure we had breakfast, lunch and Sunday dinner (macaroni), all prepared on a charcoal grill. Doris was known for her fun spirit and infectious smile. She was beloved by everyone lucky enough to have met her. She was known as Mom, Gram and GG .
Doris plowed through hard times, grief, loss, diseases and health challenges and even a devastating house fire. She effortlessly remained strong, always smiling. She was a legend and a hero to many. Her strength, class and grace are something we always admired. Doris entered the world on a holiday and left on a holiday, she did nothing small. She was the life of the party and loved by many and will be terribly missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Tuesday, January 3rd 10:30 AM– 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Hope/St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Blackwood. Mass of Christian Burial 12:15 PM. Entombment Sunset Memorial Park, Huntingdon Valley, PA.
