Donald J. Edwards
On September 14, 2021 of Vineland. Age 87. Dear brother of Laura Mae Dick (Ron). Loving uncle of Paul, Phillip, and Susan. Cherished friend of Chuck and Joyce Gibson, Tom Jarvis, and many others.
Donald served two times in the US Army having been drafted twice during the period following the Korean War. He was discharged in the mid-1960’s.
Donald had two totally different careers. First, he spent 40 years working for Robertson Typewriter Service of Collingswood, NJ, a small company that provided sales and service on all types of office equipment prior to the computer era. After business there slowed, he accepted an offer to work for his life-time friend, Tom Jarvis, at Springdale Farms in Cherry Hill, NJ where he performed any job that needed to be done over a period of nearly 20 years! He really enjoyed the work especially operating the tractors for hayrides. He became quite knowledgeable about agriculture and repairs of the farm equipment.
Donald was very dedicated to his parents, Jim and Emma, and cared for them at home until their deaths. More importantly, he was a friend to many and always there to help with just about any chore that needed to be done for a friend. Many times, he would give up entire weekends helping others with projects!
Those of you who knew Donald were aware of his dedication to the Chevrolet automobile, the history of the company and restoring old Chevrolets. He became involved in the hobby in 1965 by purchasing two 1941 Chevrolets and creating one good car out of the two. This car won many awards over the years and traveled many miles on tours. His dad, Jim, followed about 1966 by purchasing a 1940 Chevrolet coupe so it became a family hobby. Donald joined the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America in the mid-1960’s and especially enjoyed the club’s Anniversary Meets. In preparation for one such meet, Donald purchased his sister’s 1967 Chevrolet Caprice Sport Coupe that had been her daily driver for many years. The car was totally worn out and Donald restored the car to a beautiful and high-quality automobile that he enjoyed for many years.
Donald was known for never cutting corners and taking extra care to do every job properly using the right parts and the right tools. The extra cost that the correct results required never bothered Donald and this was quickly evident in everything he did!
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Tuesday 9:00-10:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral service 10:00 AM. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
