Dominick DiIanni was born on June 27, 1962, in Philadelphia, PA. Friends and family knew him as Dom, Big Dom, and Dommo. In the early morning hours of April 2, 2022, Dom left his earthly home to be united with his Lord and Savior.
Dom spent his early years in Philadelphia, then moved to South Jersey where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Highland High School in 1980, then went on to become a CDL truck driver. Shortly after marrying Diane Semos on February 28, 1998, Dom purchased a big rig and Diane took on the role of business administrator. From the beginning of their marriage and business venture together, Dom strove to build his reputation as a hard-working, dependable, self-employed owner-operator, as well as a committed and loving husband and father. Growing up, Dom was generally quiet, but as an adult he was vocal and enthusiastic when talking about things that were important to him. One of his passions was for health and fitness and nutrition, which began the day he walked home from school with his bike in two pieces. He vowed never to be bullied again, and he kept that promise to himself, every day, throughout his life. Dom eagerly shared what he learned with others, and when his son, Dominick, became old enough, they spent time together working out. As much as health and fitness were an important part of his life, his real passion started in his early thirties when he began a relationship with Jesus. Everything Dom did revolved around his faith. It was unshakeable, even in the last waking days of his life when he professed that he was eager to meet Jesus. He shared his faith with anyone and everyone, and somehow almost every conversation ended up in a discussion about Our Heavenly Father and how believing God’s word was the only thing that made sense. His priority as a parent was to make sure that he shared the gospel daily with his son. Even when Dominick visited him in the hospital, while it was difficult for Dom to speak clearly, he made sure to tell him to “trust in the Lord.” Dom knew that was the greatest legacy he could leave Dominick. We are certain Dom brought many people to Christ throughout his life, but maybe the most meaningful was during his time in the hospital. One of his nurse’s aides was so moved by his and Diane’s faith that she took the time to express her gratitude to Diane in a note. She shared that it was a blessing to know Dom and, in her words, “he helped me become stronger in my faith and not be afraid to show it.” If Dom had had a chance to read those heartfelt words, he would have been overjoyed, but now we are overjoyed for him.
Dom is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diane; his son, Dominick Theodore; he is predeceased by his father, Domenico Valentino DiIanni, nephew Jeffrey Sharp; father-in-law, Theodore Semos; he is also survived by his mother, Ann Corma DiIanni, his mother-in-law, Asimo Semos; sister-in-law, Linda Semos; three siblings, brother-in-law, several nephews, a niece, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Sunday 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Monday 12:15 – 1:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 1:00 PM. Interment Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro.
