Dolores J. Lewandowski
(nee Waltos) On November 13, 2019 of Washington Twp. Age 84. Beloved wife of Eugene J. Lewandowski. Devoted mother of Ronald Mihalko (Domenica), Linda Sullivan (Tom), Claire Moderski (John), Suzanne Lewandowski, Stacey Heil (Edward) and the late Robert (Holly) and James Mihalko. Dear sister of Dorothy Rutstein (Richard) and the late Diana Pogg (Robert). Dolores was loved by 18 grandchildren (Abrian, Florence, Devon, Johanna, Robert, John, Thomas, Scott, Michael, Nathan, Aaron, Heather, Adam, Matthew, Cody, Jake, Daniel, Rachel) and 9 Great-Grandchildren (Dalton, Luna, Emily, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Aviana, Scarlet, James, Cyrus).
Dolores was a devoted mother who was most vibrant when spending time with her family. When her children were young, she was involved in the activities that they enjoyed. She camped out with the Girls Scouts and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She spent many years coaching her daughters’ softball and basketball teams. As her family grew older she would spend time with them sailing on Bells Lake, on family crabbing trips out in the back bays of New Jersey, or enjoying season tickets to watch Phillies baseball. Even as her children had families of their own, she greatly enjoyed having everyone over for holidays, and would lead the family in a “12 days of Christmas” sing along around the Thanksgiving table in which she always belted out a great “Five Golden Rings”.
She also generously gave her time to her community. In the 1960’s she was instrumental in the development of neighborhood activities and fundraising as the President of the Washington Township Ladies Auxiliary. She was a charter member in the organization of the original Greenwood Park – Bells Lake Swim club. She enjoyed politics and spent many Election Days working at the voting booths and serving as an election judge. She made many friends sharing her love of gardening as a member of the Country Garden Club.
She spent many years teaching at Delsea Regional High School. In addition to teaching, she also had a general zest for learning that coupled with a love of reading gave her an immeasurable amount of knowledge. This knowledge was obvious each night when she would beat out just about every Jeopardy contestant while playing along from home.
She made meaningful connections with just about everyone she met as is evident in her life-long friendships, some continuing for over 70 years, and she will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday 7:00-9:00 pm and Tuesday 8:15-9:15 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, Washington Twp. Interment, Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
