Dolores A. Municello (née DePasquale), of Mickleton, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 82.
Dolores was born in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Vincent and Rita DePasquale. She and her brother, the late Frank DePasquale, grew up in South Philly surrounded by friends and family. She attended Philadelphia public schools and graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1960. Dolores frequently reminisced about her childhood in South Philly, her close friends, and all the exciting things going on during that era. Chubby Checker was one of her classmates in school and she and her friends were on American Bandstand. When she needed a break from the city, she and her family would head down to Wildwood for some beach and boardwalk time.
After graduation, Dolores spent some time living with her grandmother in Philadelphia. It was from her that Dolores learned how to make her famous recipes for meatballs, escarole soup, and gravy. Dolores always said that her grandmother was a major role model, and she cherished the time she lived there.
In 1968 Dolores met Raymond “Rocky” Municello (deceased). Rocky said that he knew he was going to marry her the first time he met her. They wed in 1969, settling first in Pennsauken followed by Swedesboro, Gibbstown, and finally in Mickleton, NJ. In 1976, she and Rocky adopted daughter Sharon (Municello-Baker) who was one year old. Dolores was a loving, nurturing, and adoring mother always giving her best to Sharon.
Professionally, Dolores started her career at Smith Kline & French Pharmaceuticals right out of High School. Once she met Rocky and had Sharon, she spent some time as a full-time Mom and homemaker. She later went back to work at Gibbstown School Age Child Care working there for 20+ years. She finished out her career volunteering as a teacher’s aide (Kindergarten) at St. Michael’s Elementary School, the school her daughter Sharon attended as a child. She loved working with children, and she made many great friends along the way.
Once Sharon grew up, Dolores and Rocky took many amazing trips together. In 1999, they traveled across the country, culminating in their trip of a lifetime, an Alaskan Cruise. They also vacationed with Sharon and Justin in Ashville, NC and Bar Harbor, ME.
In 2017, Dolores’ granddaughter Sarah Anne Baker was born. Sarah was the apple of Dolores’ eye, and she showered her with love and attention. Mom Mom frequently watched Sarah overnight spoiling her with treats, gifts and fun. She took Sarah and family to Disney World in 2022 giving her the memory of a lifetime. Dolores was amazing Mom Mom to Sarah knowing exactly how to show her a good time and make her laugh.
Dolores cherished her friends. She was always hosting lunches, going to friends’ houses for dinner, talking on the phone, going to restaurants, seeing movies, spending weekends down the shore, etc. She was so thoughtful, always remembering the important dates and events in friends lives. She and her best friend Sandy Humes took, not one but two bucket list trips- the first in 2016 to Italy, and the second in 2019 to London and Paris. Oh, how she enjoyed the different cultures, scenery, delicious foods and meeting new people from all over.
Dolores is mourned by her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, godson Chris Giordano and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, March 7th 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. Clare of Assisi Parish – St. Michael’s Church at 320 Memorial Ave, Gibbstown, NJ 08027. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 AM. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
