On August 16, 2010, of Washington Twp. Age 82. Beloved husband of Jean nee Laun. Devoted father of Denise Bigo-Early Stewart, of New York City, Henri Bigo Britta of Grainau, Germany and Hélène Bigo Marshall Gregory of Conroe, TX. Loving grandfather of Grace, Charles, Erik, David and Natalie.
Denis was born in 1927 in Calais, France. He loved aviation and served in the French Navy from 1951-1956 as an interpreter and member of the cipher corps prior to training as a French naval pilot, then serving in the Algerian war. He was trained as a pilot by the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, where he met his American spouse-to-be, Jean, now his loving and bereaved widow after 55 years of matrimony. They were married in Oran, Algeria in 1955, where he was stationed. He became an American citizen and spent most of his adult life in Turnersville. His career in 3M Corporation spanned 31 years from 1957-88, with postings in St. Paul and Brussels, prior to New Jersey, where he retired as a manager for dental products, supporting military bases nationwide. Prior to retirement he relaxed by boating in Somers Point. After retirement he enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, golfing, French cooking and travel. Always an avid reader, especially of non-fiction, he was an amateur historian with interests in the Napoleonic era. Raised in Paris, he witnessed its fall and later liberation in WWII, and suffered many privations. He was educated at the Collège Stanislas and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, France’s top business school.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday, 19 August, 10:00 – 11:00 am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment private at the convenience of the family.
