David Gavin

David J. Gavin, 43, San Diego, formerly of Vineland, died unexpectedly Friday, November 13, 2015 in San Diego, California.
Born July 27, 1972 in Vineland, New Jersey, he was the first of two sons born to William and Anne Marie Gavin. An avid fan of local hometown Philadelphia sports teams and Nascar, he enjoyed cooking, golfing, and was a lifelong musician.
A graduate of Vineland High School in 1990, he attended Cumberland County College and graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy. Among his local employers were Vineland Shop ‘n Bag, Standard Digital Imaging, and Good Sports Bar and Grille.
Dave relocated to San Diego, California in 2010 where he worked as a Sales Executive and National Operations Manager at WCM, Inc.
Known for an infectious spirit and wealth of generosity, he was friends with many in the Vineland and San Diego communities and was always engaged in entertaining and enjoying the company of friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Gavin. He is survived by his mother, Anne Marie (Jones) Gavin of Glassboro, his brother, Scott Gavin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and his companion, Nancy Hawks and her son, John, both of San Diego, CA.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, St. Padre Pio Parish on Saturday, November 28, 2015. A Viewing will be held from 8:30AM-10:45AM. Mass will follow at 11:00AM.

Dave...Superdave.... Things just aren't the same without you my friend. I am honored to have had the chance to know and love you.., I will miss football Sunday's with you and Nancy and the gang. Dave was one of my first friends ever. We grew up together. We grew apart but always reconnected where and when we could. I have great memories of Dave. We shared a lot of conversations, laughs and fun times. He liked good music, was smart, funny, insightful and loyal. He was a great guy and will be missed.

I only knew Dave a short time but he was a blast to be around. He made my cousin Nancy so happy! Tough loss and heartbreaking. I had the pleasure of playing a 7 hour round of golf with Dave when he came to visit in Bakersfield. I hope you can detect my bit of scarcasim but it is all in good memory. I was so upset at first-I'm like really? Come on Dave and pick up the damn ball already! I wouldn't trade that day for anything! My deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends, near and far.

I would like extend my condolences to Dave's family. I am truly sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. Dave was such a kind and wonderful person, funny too. We had some great times together at Good Sports and the NASCAR Races, he will be missed by many. I would also like to say how sorry I am to Nancy Hawks for her loss and how glad I am that she had came into Dave's life and although he was taken from you to soon I would like to tell you that the last time I saw him he told me all about you and how happy he was, because of you.... Like everyone I am shocked and saddened by the passing of my friend from the old neighborhood. Dave was the man who got me into U2. Man he was obsessed with them back then in high school. We talked about meeting up in San Diego and I now regret I was never able to. I am glad to know he was happy with you Nancy and John. You have my condolences, as well as Scott, Mrs Gavin and all his family and friends who shared his life. You will be missed my friend. Rob Kreck

I only met Dave Gavin once..About a year ago at a get-together of former co-workers of Nancy Hawks'. I sat right next to him and knowing how Nancy was "head over heels", I decided to say to him (protectively), "I have a few questions for you." He smiled that great smile and said "fire away!"..He had a wonderful sense of humor. I knew right away he was perfect for Nancy. Over the last year, I have seen how happy they were together. I mean really, really happy. Just look at the photos and comments that we've all seen on facebook. I am so sorry that Dave was taken from Nancy, his family and from all of us. Susie Cook
