David B. Lewis
On August 10, 2022, of Williamstown, formerly Washington Twp. Age 69. Beloved husband of the late Regina (nee Council). Devoted father of Kimberley Lewis. Loving brother of Stephen Lewis and Gregory Lewis.
My father was born and raised in Philadelphia. He and his twin brother, Stephen, were born days before Christmas 1952. All four of the Lewis sons – Gregory, Brad, David, and Stephen – attended West Catholic. David graduated West Catholic in 1970 and then attended Cheyney State College in Cheyney, Pennsylvania.
In 1978, he married Regina Council and they later welcomed their only child, Kimberley. In the early 1980s, the family moved to New Jersey – moving to Washington Twp. in 1988. David lived in Washington Twp, for more than thirty years. In his last years, he enjoyed mornings at a park located the back of the development (Valley Green) with his beloved dog, Buddy. He learned to love living in south Jersey. During his retirement years, he would spend weekdays in Cape May, his favorite shore point.
For forty years, my dad was a federal Bank Examiner, working for several government offices including the FDIC and OCC. Being an examiner, he traveled a lot for work and was able to see different parts of the country. My father liked traveling for leisure as well. He made many trips to Europe – including several church pilgrimage visits to Italy and Lourdes, France. In 2011, he visited London and Paris with his daughter.
Holy Rosary Church in Cherry Hill was a focal point of my father’s life. A devout Catholic, he faithfully attended the weekly 8:30 am Sunday Mass. Using his financial acumen, he served on Holy Rosary’s Parish Council, as a Finance Chair. He was active in all aspects of parish life – from working Bingo nights to volunteering his time and energy to parish needs.
My father was always impeccably dressed. He favored wearing suits and ties – sport coats and slacks for the weekend. He didn’t wear jeans regularly until he was in his 50s!
An avid sports fan, he loved watching professional and college sports and listening to sports talk radio. He collected sports memorabilia and could tell you almost kind of stat you’d ever want to know. He enjoyed the Phillies, Sixers, and Villanova basketball. When it came to football, his loyalty was far from local as he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan! When the Cowboys fired long time head coach, Tom Landry, my father wrote him a letter of support. Months later, he received a personal response from Coach Landry – a treasured item for any fan of the team. He was such a fan, he would wear his Dak Prescott jersey out on Sunday game days when he would visit his daughter in South Philly! After a Cowboys win, he’d text his daughter or friends with a signature “How ‘bout them Cowboys?”
Anyone who knew my dad knew that he was a one of a kind. He was a person of faith. His time on Earth was short – but he lived it on his terms. He was an original.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday 10:30-11:30 AM at the Holy Eucharist Parish, 344 Kresson Rd, Cherry Hill. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 AM.
