Darlene Ann Nipps, (nee Hannigan) on June 3, 2021, of Washington Twp., NJ. Age 85. Beloved wife of the late William Bert Nipps. Devoted mother of Charles A. Nipps (Karen) and the late William F. (the late Valerie) and Richard A. Nipps. Cherished grandmother of Kristen, Derek, David (Angelica) and Erin.
Darlene will leave behind a legacy of faith. She was a loyal member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1970. Through the years, Darry was a Vacation Bible School Teacher, took part in numerous bible studies and her favorite activity was being an integral part of the St. John’s Handbell Choir. She was a behind the scenes person – never seeking personal gain for what she did. She would choose the music, clean the brass bells and set up the tables for practice each week.
Darry grew up in a small coal mining town and knew what it was like to have to stretch a dollar. She was very frugal because of this and spent every penny wisely. She met Bill while playing in a high school band. She was a State Saxophone champion in Pennsylvania as well.
Darry and Bill were married for 65 years and being a homemaker and raising her boys was her true joy.
Darlene also loved to travel with her devoted husband Bill. They travelled to Germany many times and looked forward to this trip each year. In later years, they enjoyed going to Cape May and enjoyed their time at their cottage.
Darry was very active in life. She played tennis regularly and also was a member of several bowling leagues. She loved to garden as well.
When her grandchildren had a concert or activity, she was always there supporting them. Even with her health declining, she would push through to see a basketball game, concert or recital. She was very proud of her grandchildren and they felt her love and support every day.
Her legacy of faith and love is left for those who knew her – for we all felt a little more loved leaving than when we came in.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Wednesday 10:00 – 11:00 am at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 149 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 11:00 AM. Interment St. John’s United Methodist Cemetery, Washington Twp.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Darlene’s memory may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 149 Ganttown Rd., Turnersville, NJ 08012.
