Charles W. Van Mater
On November 26, 2021 of Washington Twp. Age 79. Beloved husband of Rita T. (nee Mahon). Devoted father of Charles E. Van Mater (Theresa), James T. Van Mater (Margaret), Mark A. Van Mater (Kelli), and Amy E. Finn (Stephen). Loving grandfather of Jessica (Carlos), Albert (Danielle), Kyle (Erika), Brenden (Alana), Erika (Doug), Tyler, Christian, Autumn, Jared, KC, and Olivia. Proud great-grandfather of Vinny, Sebastian, and Ellie. Dear brother of Judith Peratikos (Tasos), Sharon Davies (Frank), and Brian Van Mater (Rainy).
He was so proud to be a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach and teacher. He was equal parts instigator and mentor and always had a supportive word for anyone who needed one. He loved to barbeque in January and spend Friday nights with Rita and their friends. He was a long-time member of the Washington Township Rotary Club. He found his calling in mid-life, when a career change found him teaching computer science at Camden County College. He retired in 2011 as an Assistant Dean in the Computer Science Department.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 8:15 – 10:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Interment Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
In lieu of flowers donations in Charles’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
