Charles (Charlie) J. McClain, 81, of Washington Township, NJ, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2022, surrounded by his family whose prayers to St. Joseph were answered. Charles was born in Philadelphia to Walter and Martha McClain (nee Evans). He is survived by his wife Lucy (nee Pepe), his sons Brian (Stephanie) and Michael, and his three granddaughters Sophia, Lucille, and Aurora Josephine, his brother Walter and his sister Marcie Lorch.
After high school, Charlie served in the New Jersey Army National Guard and worked his way through college, receiving his degree from Rutgers University several years later. Charlie had the personality and “Irish Charm” that allowed him to make friends easily and keep them forever. That personality made him a great fit for his career in Human Resources, which included serving as Vice-President of Human Resources at Trilog and at Gloucester County College before he retired in 2010.
In his younger days, he loved playing football, softball and baseball, and in 1996 he won a trip to attend Phillies’ Dream Week and loved every minute of it. After his sons were born, he hung up his cleats and put away his glove and watched (or coached – either officially or from the sidelines) every athletic event his sons participated in. Throughout his life he loved traveling with his family and golfing and fishing with his sons and his friends. He especially enjoyed many happy hours fishing in the Delaware Bay with his family on a boat he owned with his brother Walt.
Patient, kind, and hardworking, he was a selfless man who always put his family first and focused on providing them the best life possible. The love he had for them and that hearty laugh they heard so often from him will be forever remembered by his family who loved him deeply. His passing has left an unmendable tear in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 9:00 – 10:30 AM at Mater Ecclasaiae Chapel, 261 Berlin Cross Keys Rd., Berlin, NJ 08009. Requiem Mass 10:45 AM. Entombment All Saints Cemetery, Newfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’s memory may be made to Mater Ecclasaiae Chapel at the above address.
